Select any of the checkboxes under Use Shorthand For to have Dreamweaver write your
style code in this fashion.
The second option on the CSS Styles category determines how Dreamweaver edits styles in previously coded
pages. If you want to retain the format of the original page, click Use Shorthand If Original Used Shorthand.
If you want Dreamweaver to write new code in the manner that you specify, select Use Shorthand According
To Settings Above.

The final option in this group, Open CSS Files When Modified, gives the designer a bit of a safety net when
working with external CSS files. When this option, Dreamweaver does indeed open the CSS file when you
make a change in any of the CSS rules, whether through the CSS Style definition dialog or the Relevant CSS
panel; however, it??™s important to understand why the CSS file is opened. If the file is not opened,
Dreamweaver cannot undo the CSS modification. It??™s not necessary to switch to the CSS file and undo the
changes from that document; Dreamweaver handles the modifications from any page linked to the external
CSS file. You must, however, save the CSS file when you??™re done, confirming the final styles being used.
Although it may seem a bit awkward to have an external file open while working on another, I recommend
selecting the Open CSS Files When Modified option.
