In the Office Copy/Paste category, you have two basic options: insert the content
(formatted according to the standard options) or create a link to the document. On the Macintosh, a
link is always created.
When an Office document is dragged onto the Web page (whether from the Files panel or the desktop), the
Insert Document dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 8-12. If you opt to insert the file, Dreamweaver
automatically converts the document according to the options selected. When you choose to create a link, a
text link to the file is inserted.

Dreamweaver will remember the option chosen from one import operation to the other; these
settings are independent of the choices made in the Copy/Paste category of Preferences.
Importing Word HTML
Microsoft Word has offered an option to save its documents as HTML since the release of Word 97.
Unfortunately, Microsoft??™s version of HTML output is, at best, highly idiosyncratic. Although you could
always open a Word HTML file in Dreamweaver, if you ever had to modify the page??”which you almost
always do??”it took so long to find your way through the convoluted code that you were almost better off
building the page from scratch.
