Working with Text 8
Whereas logical styles are utilitarian, physical styles such as boldface and italic are decorative or presentational.
With the advent of Cascading Style Sheets, use of the physical style tags is no longer the preferred
method of styling text. However, physical tags are still supported and are still very widely used. Even with
Cascading Style Sheets, both physical and logical styles have their uses in material published on today??™s
Web. In Dreamweaver, logical and physical style tags can be accessed by choosing Text ??? Style and selecting
from the available style name options. A checkmark appears next to the selected tags. Style tags can be
nested (put inside one another), and you can mix logical and physical tags within a word, line, or document.
You can have a bold, strikethrough, variable style; or you can have an underlined, cited style. (Both
variable and cite are particular logical styles covered later in this section.)
You can also add the most commonly used styles??”bold, italic, strong, and emphasis??”by
clicking the appropriate button in the Text category of the Insert bar.
Figure 8-13 compares how styles are rendered in Dreamweaver, Internet Explorer 7.
