"Dreamweaver CS3 Bible"

Before you can display a guide, you have to meet two conditions: the View ??? Guides ??? Show Guides
option must be enabled along with View ??? Rulers ??? Show Rulers. The standard method for deploying a
guide in Dreamweaver is the same as in those other programs: with rulers displayed, the user drags a guide
onto the document (see Figure 11-16). Horizontal guides are dragged from the ruler on the top edge while
vertical guides are dragged from the left edge ruler. You can have as many guides on your page as you want.

Guides work well in a CSS-P layout design environment.
Positioning and removing guides
To place a guide on the page, follow these steps:
1. Choose View ??? Rulers ??? Show Rulers to toggle the rulers into view.
2. Select View ??? Guides ??? Show Guides so that the option is checked.
3. To place a horizontal guide on the page, drag a guide from the ruler at the top of the page.
4. To place a vertical guide on the page, drag a guide from the ruler at the left of the page.

Working with Divs and AP Elements 11
Once positioned, guides can be moved at any time. You can visually position guides by dragging them to a
new location on the page; when your cursor is over the guide, you??™ll see a tooltip with the precise horizontal
or vertical coordinate of the guide in pixels from the top or left of the page, respectively.
