Showing the browser window fold
One application in the guide featureset unique to Dreamweaver is especially useful for Web designers.
When a browser displays a Web page, the portion initially visible is said to be ???above the fold.??? The concept
of a fold comes from the world of newspaper journalism where papers are divided into a top and bottom
portion by the way they are folded. Dreamweaver can quickly display the fold of a browser window??”that
is, the viewable area??”through guides.
Six of the most common browser window configurations are available through the Guides submenu:
n 640 x 480, Default
n 640 x 480, Maximized
n 800 x 600, Maximized
387
Working with Divs and AP Elements 11
n 832 x 624, Maximized
n 1024 x 768, Maximized
n WebTV
You??™ll recognize the dimensions from the Window Size selector on the Status bar. When you select any of
these options from the View ??? Guides menu, Dreamweaver inserts two guides??”one horizontal and
another vertical??”to form the right and bottom edge of the browser window (see Figure 11-19).
