Adding Advanced Design Features Part III
Creating a Loading AP Element
As Web creations become more complex, most designers want their AP elements to zip onscreen and offscreen
or appear and disappear as quickly as possible for the page??™s viewer. An AP element can act only
when it has finished loading its content??”the text and images. Rather than have the user see each AP element
loading in, some designers use a loading AP element to mask the process until everything is downloaded
and ready to go.
A loading AP element is fairly easy to create. Dreamweaver supplies all the JavaScript necessary in one
behavior, Show-Hide Elements. Keep in mind that because this technique uses AP elements, it??™s good only
for 4.0 browsers and later.
To create a loading AP element, follow these steps:
1. Create all AP elements with the contents in place and the visibility property set as default.
2. Create the loading AP element. (Choose Insert ??? Layout Objects ??? AP Div or click the Draw AP
Div button in the Layout category of the Insert bar.)
3. Enter and position whatever contents you want displayed in the loading AP element while all the
other AP elements are loading.
