Drawing cells and tables
Although you can use Layout mode to modify the structure of existing pages, this view is best when designing
Web pages from the ground up. The Draw Layout Cell and Draw Table commands enable you to quickly
lay out the basic structure of your page by defining the key document areas. For example, with just four
mouse moves in Layout mode, you can design a page with sections for a logo, a navigation bar, a copyright
notice, and a primary content area. Now you are ready to fill out the design with graphics, text, and other
assets. Here??™s how it works:
1. On a blank page, click the Layout mode button in the Layout category of the Insert bar. When
you first enter Layout mode, Dreamweaver displays a Help screen to explain how the feature
works. After you??™re comfortable working in Layout mode, feel free to select the Don??™t Show Me
This Message Again option to prevent further appearances of the dialog box.
2. Click the Draw Layout Cell button in the Layout category of the Insert bar. The cursor changes to
a plus sign. Although it may seem backward, it??™s best to initially use Draw Layout Cell, rather than
Draw Layout Table. Dreamweaver automatically creates the HTML table necessary to hold any
cells you draw, resulting in fewer tables and tighter code.
