Targeting sections of your frameset
In the section ???Naming Your Frames,??? you learned that certain names are reserved. The following four special
names are reserved by HTML for the parts of a frameset that are used in targeting: _blank, _parent,
_self, and _top. With them, you can cause content from a link to overwrite the current frame or to
appear in an entirely new browser window.
To target a link to a section of your frameset, follow these steps:
1. Select the text or image you want to use as your link.
2. In the Text (or Image) Property inspector, enter the URL and/or named anchor in the Link text
box. Alternatively, you can click the folder icon to browse for the file.
3. Select the Target text box. (You may need to expand the Property inspector to see the Target
text box.)
4. Select one of the following reserved target names from the drop-down list of Target options
(see Figure 16-13) or type an entry into the text box:
n _blank??”Opens the link into a new browser window and keeps the current window available.
n _parent??”Opens the link into the parent frameset of the current frame, if any.
n _self??”Opens the link into the current frame, replacing its contents (the default).
n _top??”Opens the link into the outermost frameset of the current Web page, replacing all
frames.
