"Dreamweaver CS3 Bible"

Integrating Fireworks
Adobe Fireworks combines the best of both vector and bitmap technologies and is one of the first graphics
programs to use PNG as its native format. Exceptional export capabilities are available in Fireworks with
which images can be optimized for file size, color, and scale. Moreover, Fireworks is terrific at generating
GIF animations, rollovers, image maps, and sliced images.
Dreamweaver has a few graphics tricks of its own now. Even without Fireworks, you can crop,
resample, and brighten images??”and more. For a discussion of Dreamweaver??™s built-in graphics
capabilities, see Chapter 9.
With Dreamweaver and Fireworks, you have two ways to alter inserted graphics: the Optimize Image command
and the Edit button in the Image Property inspector.

Including Multimedia Elements Part V
The full integration described in this chapter requires that a current version of Fireworks be
installed after Dreamweaver or as part of the Adobe Creative Suite. Certain features, such as
the Optimize Image command, work with Fireworks 2 and later; but any other features requiring direct
communication between the two programs work with Fireworks MX 2004 and up.
Optimizing an image in Fireworks
Although you can design the most beautiful, compelling image possible in your graphics program, if it??™s
intended for the Internet, it must be viewed in a Web page.
