Including Multimedia Elements Part V
Because of server capacity limitations, most Web designers upload the exported GIF/JPEG
image files (the files that actually appear in the Web page) to their servers, but they do not
upload the source PNG image files from which these GIFs/JPEGs are derived. If you use this approach, you
can take advantage of Dreamweaver??™s Cloaking feature to cloak your PNG files, thus automatically preventing
them from being uploaded, as discussed in Chapter 5.
To use the Optimize Image command, follow these steps:
1. Select the image you??™d like to modify in Dreamweaver.
The current page must have been saved at least once before the Optimize Image command
can be run. The current state of the page doesn??™t have to be previously saved, but a valid file
must exist for the command to work properly. If you haven??™t saved the file, Dreamweaver alerts you to this
fact when you call the command.
2. Choose Commands ??? Optimize Image.
You can also invoke the Optimize Image command from the Property inspector. With the
image selected, click Optimize??”it??™s the second button from the left in the Edit area and looks
like a c-clamp.
