If you don??™t constrain the resizing, the width to height proportion may not
be consistent with the original image.
4. Resize the picture until it??™s approximately 2/3 of its original size.
5. When the image size is more appropriate to the page, select Optimize from the Property inspector.
The Image Preview dialog box opens with the selected image already resized to your specifications.
6. In the Options tab of the Image Preview dialog box, select the 2 Preview Windows option near the
bottom of the dialog. You??™ll use the two preview windows to find the best balance between the
visual quality of the image and file size.
7. Drag the Quality slider down around 60 until you find suitable image quality and file size. At
55%, the file size drops from the original size of 29K to less than 9K??”a significant reduction,
without a noticeable image quality change.
Optimizing Graphics
Editing an image in Fireworks
Optimizing an image is great when all you need to do is tweak the file size or rescale the image. Other
images require more detailed modification??”such as when a client requests that the wording or order of a
series of navigational buttons be changed. Dreamweaver enables you to specify Fireworks as your graphics
editor. If you??™ve done so, you can take advantage of Fireworks??™ capability to keep every element of your
graphic always editable.
