This category is tremendously useful for organizing file clutter by standardized
rules. Initially, three document types are predefined, as shown in Figure 31-22; the administrator can modify
these settings and declare any others necessary.
FIGURE 31-22
Organize your Contribute-dependent files automatically by defining rules in the File Placement category.
Dependent files, such as images, Word files, PDFs, or SWFs, can be placed in three types of places:
n Same Folder As Draft: Places files in the same folder as the current page.
n Folder Next To Each Draft: Stores files in a subfolder within the same folder as the current page.
Administrators define the name of the subfolder and it will be automatically created on first use.
n Specific Folder On Your Website: Puts files of a given type in a single specified folder; administrators
can browse for the file to identify its path. If this option is selected, an option to write siteroot
relative links is provided.
Although it takes a degree of upfront planning, it is highly recommended that you attempt to set rules for
all the various types of dependent files on your site as early as possible. Although rules such as this take
effect immediately when defined, they??™re not retrospective and you could save yourself a great deal of cleanup
with thoughtful application of the File Placement category.
