Building Web Sites with a Team 31
Shared Assets
One of the challenges of managing a Contribute-powered site is maintaining design control. At a certain
level, if you give users the opportunity to insert any type of image or Flash movie, they will respond with
often undesirable choices. The Shared Assets feature of Contribute makes it possible to specify images,
Flash movies, or Library items (see Figure 31-23).
FIGURE 31-23
Help shape your user??™s choices by declaring images, Flash movies, and Library items as Shared Assets.
The ability to include Library items is particularly powerful. This option makes it possible to define blocks
of content that can be quickly and easily integrated into a Web page. Not only can one or more paragraphs
of text be defined but also fully designed tables, mixtures of graphics and text, or any other page elements.
You can integrate Dreamweaver behaviors in your Library items, and Contribute will automatically include
the necessary JavaScript code when the shared Library item is inserted into the page.
New Images
With the ease of digital photography, inserting images on the Web becomes a double-edged sword. On one
hand, it??™s now incredibly easy to add graphics to a page??”however, unless optimized for the Web, digital
images can slow page loading to a crawl.
