Objects can be so much more than just duplication tools, however??”they can extend the reach
of Dreamweaver??™s power and instantly incorporate new standards and technology. The standard
Dreamweaver objects can be used effortlessly. Just like all objects, they are simply HTML files, and thus provide
excellent examples for creating custom objects. Here are some of the key points to remember about
Dreamweaver objects:
n Objects can be inserted from either the Insert bar or the Insert menu.
n Both the Insert bar and the Insert menu can be easily modified by adjusting the menus.xml file.
n Simple objects can be created by inserting the HTML code necessary to make the object into a file
and then saving the file in one of the object??™s subfolders.
n More complex objects can take advantage of Dreamweaver??™s built-in JavaScript interpreter, its
Document Object Model (DOM), special JavaScript functions, and enhanced Application
Programming Interface (API). In Dreamweaver, you can even use layers to construct custom
objects.

Creating and Using Objects
The technology of Dreamweaver client-side behaviors is open. Anybody
with the requisite JavaScript and HTML skills can write a behavior. To talk
about writing a behavior, however, is a bit of a mistake.
